How To Build A Website

Wow, this one scared me when I first started! In fact I was spending more time researching how to get someone else to do this for me than I was just learning how to do it myself!

Let me tell you, it’s nowhere near as daunting as you think.  And besides, once you start making money you can definitely pay someone else to do it for you! But initially – save yourself some money and let’s get cracking:

Construction Of A Website

There are lots of reasons to create a website – you could be creating one for a friend (I did one recently for a friend who is going into semi-retirement and just wanted a small Handyman site put up) – or whether you’re looking to start your own business or hobby site.

Nowadays it costs very little and you don’t have to be a web designer or developer to get up and running!  It’s easy to create professional looking sites without too much ‘know how’.

Important aspects of website creation:

There are a few fundamentals you need to understand:

1. You need a domain name
2. You need to get your website ‘hosted’
3. You need to make it stand out to attract an audience

Also creating a website and creating an ‘effective’ website are 2 different things the difference is:

Speed & Load Time, Professional Look & Feel, Easy to Navigate, Quality Content

If  you can get all this together and moving smoothly then you will have a successful (and generally profitable) website!

However, you’re here on this page because you need to know HOW to do all this right?!

So I suggest you leverage a framework for your website such as WordPress – it offers you free templates to kick start you off.

Step by Step:

1. Register a Domain (I suggest Namecheap that’s who I use), but you can go anywhere like GoDaddy. It will cost you approximately $9-12 per year – pick a name that best suits your niche, but don’t stress if it doesn’t  (I mean the name Spotify doesn’t exactly scream ‘music’).

2. Get a Host for your website (again, I suggest BlueHost, but by all means look around at others) – this will cost approx. $5-10 per month (but you will have to pay the year upfront so beware). Note: I do show you a FREE way to get a domain and hosting at the bottom of this training.

I’ve used this analogy before, but it made sense to me:  the domain is like a an item that needs to be sold – it needs to be put on a shelf to be seen and bought by clients, and the ‘host’ is like the shelf in the supermarket that stores it and displays it publicly – hope this helps!

3. Enable WordPress on your site and you’re ready to go. Once upon a time you need to know how to manually code HTML to create a site and it cost $1,000’s to have a website built – no more! Now anyone can have a go.

• Easy to install and set up
• No HTML, no code knowledge needed
• Over 1,400 really nice templates to choose from
• Easy to install ‘plug’ins’ to add features and website functionality

On a personal note I use WordPress on all my own sites!

NOW, you can go ahead and do all this yourself and spend individually to have all these things come together for you – OR you can get your own WordPress site and all the instructions on how to do it for FREE  –  and it will take you all of 5-10 minutes!
